An illuminated welcome to Aomori

The Aomori Snow Light Festival or Yuki Akari Festival in Japanese, is conveniently held close to Aomori Station, with gentle lights warmly illuminating the entrance to the city. Two-thousand snow lamps are on display, each one handmade by locals over the course of a week.

During the course of the festival there are a host of interactive events related to snow and candles that visitors can enjoy. Try your hand at making your own snow lantern, or make a wish by writing it on a special candle holder. The festival is the perfect time to explore the whole city of Aomori as well.

How to get there

Shin-Aomori Station, on the Tohoku Shinkansen, is a six-minute journey to Aomori Station via the Ou Line. It is five minutes on foot from JR Aomori Station to the Snow Light Festival.

Schedule

Held in late January.
