Adventure Tours on the Dreamlike Waters of the Niyodo Blue

Enjoy canyoning or packrafting on Shikoku's renowned crystal-clear river

If you’re in search of excitement, pristine nature, outdoor activities, and unforgettable photo opportunities, then the team at Niyodo Adventure has you sorted. Discover the remarkably pure azure waters of the Niyodo River in Kochi Prefecture, which have earned the apt nickname "Niyodo Blue."

With canyoning tours held from March through November and packrafting tours available throughout the year, take the chance to explore one of Japan’s clearest and most beautiful waterways. Experienced guides will lead you into Nakatsu Gorge and its most picturesque spots, forged by the currents over thousands of years. Along the route, explore remote gems only accessible with expert local knowledge.

Canyoning tours offer the opportunity to rappel, cliff jump, and slide down waterfalls, surrounded by the deep green forest and iridescent shades of cobalt and aquamarine. Packrafting is ideal for first-timers, who can enjoy paddling along gently flowing waters. If you're feeling adventurous, you can get your adrenaline pumping and tackle more challenging rapids. All you need to bring is a swimsuit and towel. Niyodo Adventure will take care of the rest to ensure you stay safe and warm over your two-hour excursion. You can bring a waterproof camera, but no worries if you don’t—your guide will be happy to take photos and videos as a present to take home after your tour.

Tours are available in English and depart twice daily in the morning and afternoon. Bookings can be made online, and private family tours are available for guests with younger children. What’s more, the team is happy to introduce all their favorite local spots for you to check out after your tour, including local hot springs and tasty restaurants.

Access: From Tokyo Haneda Airport, fly to Kochi Ryoma Airport (about one hour 25 minutes), take the Airport Limousine Bus to Kochi Station (about 27 minutes), take the Dosan Line local train to Sakawa Station (about 51 minutes), then take the Kuroiwa Kanko Bus to the Nanokawa stop (about 34 minutes) and walk about 14 minutes to Niyodo Adventure. Those arriving by train can also arrange for a complimentary pick up from Sakawa Station (reservation required).
