Taishoike Pond, a scenic and placid body of water formed by a volcanic explosion, is the starting point for hiking trails that spread across the surrounding mountains in the Kamikochi highland valley. A local guide will lead you from Taishoike Pond to Kappabashi Bridge, a suspension bridge spanning the Azusa River while providing an inside perspective on the history, culture, and nature of Kamikochi. Guided hikes in the surrounding mountains are also available.
