Kashikojima Island Trail

Explore the verdant island of Kashikojima in Ago Bay on this short and easy hiking course

The island of Kashikojima is extensively linked to the mainland via two bridges, a ferry service and a train station of the same name. From the station, head for Kashikojima Ohashi, the bridge connecting the island to the mainland from the north. On the mainland, follow the road to the second intersection and take a right. After a short walk by the bay, you'll come to another intersection. For an interesting detour, go straight on to Shimmei-jinja, a forest shrine traditionally associated with the ama divers. Turning right at the intersection instead will take you across another bridge back to Kashikojima, following the Kintetsu train tracks.

If you have time, it's worth adding a trip on the Ago Bay Liner or another tour boat to this short course. Your choice of vessels includes a small cruise ship and a medieval Spanish-style sailing ship. From the start and endpoint at Kashikojima Station, it's just a short walk to the port.

Next to the port is the green expanse of Maruyama Park. Nearby you'll find Kotohiragu Shrine, a simple structure that houses the guardian deity of the island.
