Tokashiku and Aharen are the two main beaches of Tokashikijima Island. Both have white-sand stretches that arc alongside stunningly beautiful seas. Experience the deep blue ocean of the Kerama Islands to its fullest through a host of ocean-based activities. Tokashiku Beach is famous for swimming with sea turtles, while Aharen Beach is a popular jumping-off point for diving excursions. The mountains behind the beaches block out Naha’s light pollution at night, treating you to a bright star-filled sky.

Tokashiku Beach

The white sands and blue waters of Tokashiku Beach

The water at Tokashiku Beach is very calm and is an ideal place to try stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). Sea turtles often come to feed on the seaweed growing in the shallows around Tokashiku Beach. If you see one, do not approach or chase it—watch from a distance so as not to disturb or harm it. In the evening, you can enjoy watching the sunset right from the sandy shores. Lifeguards are on duty between late April and October.

Marine activities at Aharen Beach

You can easily reach Aharen Beach by bus from Tokashiki Port. Once you get there, choose from a variety of marine activities, including snorkeling, banana boat rides and sea kayaking. Toilets, showers and coin lockers are available at the nearby village campgrounds for a fee. Lifeguards are on duty between late April and October.

Hanarijima Island

Hanarijima Island and its white, sandy beaches are located right across the water from Aharen Beach, accessible by banana boat, glass-bottom boat, or sea kayak. The seas around Hanarijima Island are home to large schools of tropical fish unique to Okinawa, and the island has been featured on countless television shows. It is an extremely popular diving spot, drawing divers from around the world.
