Discover a little-explored part of Japan's largest marsh
Embark on a safety-focused guided trek to Cape Kirakotan, a designated special protected area in Kushiro Marsh.
Cape Kirakotan is one of the capes of Kushiro Marsh, which was once part of the sea, and one of the places where red-crowned cranes, thought to have gone extinct in the 1920s, was rediscovered.
The trekking route is about 2 km one-way without any major elevation changes. It is in a Natural Monument area, and thus requires approval from Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs to visit.
The area's atmosphere, which does not easily allow people to approach, has led it to be called a sanctuary of the marsh. Both its spectacular scenery and the overwhelming beauty of the meandering river are well worth seeing.
This tour is accompanied by a specialized guide and is conducted with permission from the Agency for Cultural Affairs, so you can participate with peace of mind.
