Boat Trip
Walk around the shores of Lake Nojiri and ride a boat to a lake shrine
The bottom of Lake Nojiri is an excavation site for prehistoric fossils and stone tools. Fossils of Naumann elephants and Yabe's Giant Deer have been discovered in the area and can be seen at the Nojiriko Museum, the starting point of the course. Afterward, take a leisurely walk along the lakeshore, board a boat to visit a sacred island and sample locally grown vegetables.
Uga-jinja Shrine
Take a boat from Line Plaza Dock to visit Lake Nojiri's Biwajima Island. The entire island serves as grounds for Uga-jinja Shrine and attracts a constant stream of worshippers. Look out for a framed inscription of the shrine's name on the main gates. It was originally written by Katsu Kaishu (1823–1899), a warrior and statesman who lived from the end of the Edo period (1603–1867) to the start of the Meiji period (1868–1912). Lakeside restaurant terrace
Many restaurants in the area have open terraces with beautiful views of Lake Nojiri. Stop by for lunch and enjoy delicious meals made with locally grown vegetables.
Space of Greenery, Water, and Wind
Lake Nojiri has a number of monuments dedicated to the Naumann elephant (Palaeoloxodon naumanni). The Space of Greenery, Water, and Wind, an outdoor area with a Naumann elephant monument, benches and wide expanses of grass, is a great place to relax and take pictures.
