Take a scenic cruise on Honshu's largest caldera lake
Join the Towada Caldera Cruise and see Lake Towada from a new perspective and understand the destructive force of the volcanic activity that formed this vast caldera. After multiple eruptions that began around 200,000 years ago, the Towada Volcano collapsed, and the caldera gradually filled with water, becoming the largest caldera lake on Japan’s main island of Honshu.
The cruise is available from mid-April to mid-November. There are two courses: one between Yasumiya and Nenokuchi, and the other around Ogura Peninsula and Nakayama Peninsula, departing from Yasumiya. Come here in springtime for the lush foliage, or visit during fall for the striking autumn colors. Make the boat ride a part of a lakeside hike with a one-way ticket, or opt for a round-trip tour.
