Hanamaki Night around the stars (sky lantern event)

Hanamaki Tourist Association

The “Hanamaki Night around the stars” is a winter-only event in which lanterns with wishes written on them (sky lanterns) float out into the night sky of Hanamaki. It takes place in the city of Hanamaki, Iwate Prefecture every year in January and February. The event is held from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and in addition to lantern raising, you can also enjoy fireworks.

All participants launch lit lanterns at once. Participation in the event is limited to those staying at Hanamaki Onsenkyo. Free shuttle service is available from each accommodation facility to the event venue. Why not raise a lantern with your wishes and spend some memorable moments with your loved ones?

How to get there

Take a Shinkansen bullet train from Tokyo Station to Shin-Hanamaki Station (2 hours 40 minutes). The location is 40 minutes by car from JR Shin-Hanamaki Station.
