Enjoy a Hot Pot at this Ethereal Snow Hut Village in Nagano

Over 20 Kamakura snow huts appear in Iiyama, Nagano Prefecture between late-January and February every year, creating the fairytale-like Restaurant Kamakura Village. Locals build Kamakura on top of snow-covered rice fields, symbolizing that winter has arrived in Iiyama, and serving as an attraction that is popular among domestic and international visitors alike.

Here you can warm up inside a Kamakura with a Noroshi Nabe, a local specialty hot pot made with Shinshu Miso, and locally grown mushrooms and vegetables. Dining inside a 3m tall Kamakura is bound to be an unforgettable experience.

In the middle of the broad, white snowscape of the Kamakura village stands the bright red torii gate of Kamakura Shinto Shrine. The snow hut is a genuine shrine that houses a sacred object, a divine rope known as a Shimenawa used to ward off evil, and an offering box. Reservations are not required to enter the shrine, so visitors are welcome at any time.

At night, lanterns illuminating the Kamakura create a beautiful fairytale-like atmosphere that is perfect for family, friends and lovers alike.
