Summer Comes Alive with Vibrant Colours at the Hachinohe Sansha Taisai Festival!

The Hachinohe Sansha Taisai Festival, the largest summer festival in the Hachinohe region of Aomori Prefecture, will be held from July 31st to August 4th.

The highlights are the ancient shrine procession of the city's three shrines and the parade of ornate shrine floats. The shrine procession centers around the mikoshi (portable shrine) and various local performing arts such as Daikagura, a children's procession, and toramai (tiger dances) are displayed.

During the float parade, 27 great ornate shrine floats based on mythology and kabuki plays are paraded through the city center. The sight of the 10m tall floats being paraded around by a large number of people pulling them is a spectacular sight. It's spectacular during the day, but at night the floats are lit up and you can experience a fantastical atmosphere that is different from the daytime!
