Impact of the Noto Peninsula Earthquake on Sado Island

On January 1st 2024, the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture was hit by a series of strong earthquakes up to intensity 7. The earthquakes also affected many other parts of the Chubu region along the strip facing the Sea of Japan, including Sado Island.

Although some buildings and roads sustained damage, and landslides were confirmed in several places, luckily nothing worse happened.

While repairs are underway, the earthquakes did not have a serious impact on everyday life in Sado. The Sado Tourism Association notes that the island is welcoming travelers as usual, and that any inquiries regarding the status of the island can be directed to the webpage linked below.
