The World's 50 Best Beaches, Sponsored By Banana Boat, has released its annual list of the best beaches in the world for 2024 – with Okinawa’s own Aharen Beach placing number 13!
Voted on by beach ambassadors and over 1,000 seasoned travel professional from across the globe, the list offers insights that any seasoned beachgoer will want to take to heart.
The rankings factor in 8 main criteria: unique characteristics, wildlife, untouched nature, natural soundtrack, easy-to-enter water, calmness of water, lack of crowds, and frequency of idyllic conditions.
Japan’s contributions to the list - Aharen Beach, is located on Tokashiki Island, among the greater Kerama Islands. Known for its abundance of nature and landscapes distinguised by the striking contrast of white beaches against pure blue waters and skies, this region boasts reputation for clear waters and soft sand.
Despite being a simple ferry ride from Okinawa’s main city of Naha, Aharen Beach remains relatively secluded. The greater area boasts all sorts of activities, from turtle-watching to snorkelling, though Aharen itself remains relatively quiet – making it an idyllic spot for a tranquil break from more bustling tourist draws.
