In Zao, Yamagata Prefecture, the trees appear as Snow Monsters in the wintertime as they are covered by snow and ice. Visitors can enjoy skiing and snowboarding while viewing these frost-covered trees.
Light-up events are also held at night, and a magical atmosphere completely differnt to that of the afternoon spreads throughout the area. (The area is lit up until February 27). We highly recommend viewing the entire area from the Zao Ropeway. The area is also known as a good place for hot springs, making it a good place for day-trips and staying overnight.
