TRIPSPICE | #discover_shimane

Shimane has various cycling courses throughout the prefecture for anyone – from beginners to experts. These courses will give you a chance to explore the area, taking you to see sites such as the national treasure Matsue Castle and the Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine, breathtaking views of the sunset over Lake Shinji, and the precious nature of the Oki Islands, which are designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark. Whether it be at your own pace with a map in hand or with a local guide, you can enjoy it in a way that best suits your interests and needs.

Shimane also offers an ideal environment for cycling. Along the routes, you can find rest stops called Goen Cycle Stations where you can park your bike, use a bathroom, and even get your water bottle refilled. In addition, some of the stations also offer luggage storage services, shower rooms, and tools to fix and take care of your bike. You can find rental cycle shops in each area, where you can rent e-bikes with electric assist or full-fledged road bikes, depending on your level and purpose.

If you are worried about being late or getting tired on the way back, you can also utilize the local train, the Ichibata train, which will allow you to take your bike onto the train with you. Cycling during your trip will take you to places you usually cannot visit through means of public transportation.
