Nishigawa Flower Park

HOME > Japan’s Local Treasures > Nishigawa Flower Park
Kochi Prefecture
After the long chilly winter, the arrival of spring and flowers is certainly worth celebrating. Nowhere is this more true than in Nishigawa Flower Park! Located about 1.5 hours from central Kochi City, from mid-March to the very beginning of April this magical hill bursts with color and new life.
The white and blush cherry blossoms, the peaches' various shades of pink, and cheerful yellow canola flowers combine to create a landscape that is straight out of an animated movie. The hill is crisscrossed with trails that pass by the over 600 cherry and peach trees and 500,000 canola plants, with plenty of little enclaves to delight photographers.
Pack some snacks, climb the hill, and grab a spot at the long benches overlooking the peaceful village below, which is framed by the blooming trees. You will soon understand why this spot is nicknamed “Kochi's paradise!”
There is a modest 500 yen fee to visit, which allows locals to maintain the park so that visitors can enjoy the blooms for years to come. Unsurprisingly, the park is extremely popular, so visiting on a weekday is best if you want to avoid crowds.
From Kochi Station, take the Gomen-Nahari Line train (through JR Dosan Line) to Noichi Station, take a bus to "Nakanishigawa" (25 minutes), then walk 10 minutes.
