Tucked away in the mountains of Minamiboso, Chiba is a samurai residence where you can enjoy dishes made with spring water and wild vegetables of the mountains nearby, and homegrown produce, and try on kimonos after your meal. The scenery, the scent, the sensation of the breeze on your skin, and the sounds of the birds and insects allow you to fully appreciate Japan's magnificent natural surroundings.
The samurai residence, Tenzen, prides itself on serving fresh locally-sourced seafood and meat as well as homegrown produce. Mineoka Tofu, tofu made from milk and kudzu powder invented in the 1700s to satisfy the shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune’s tofu craving, is also available as part of the course menu.
Tenzen was named after Mikogami Tenzen, a renowned sword master born in the area who served the Tokugawa Shogunate. The area is also known for being the origin of the Japanese dairy industry.
Watch the fall colors sway in the wind as you indulge in the season’s blessings prepared over crackling charcoal, immerse in the traditional atmosphere, and relax in a private dining room. After your meal, try on traditional Japanese costumes and discover the eclectic collection in the bukeyashiki, the samurai residence.
The journey there may not be a walk in the park, but the destination is another world where you can experience the traditional, rustic, and delicious side of Japan.
