Tachibana in Yame City is a satoyama, or village in the foothills, where daily life centers on utilizing the bounty of each season and living in sync with the cycles of the natural world.

Wisdom once common to the area, such as making konjac jelly and pickles, crafting with bamboo, farming, and mountain work, are slowly being lost. This program helps pass on the centuries’ worth of experience to both locals and visitors, allowing the knowledge behind the satoyama lifestyle to be transferred to the next generation.

During this half-day program, visitors can experience and appreciate the food culture of Tachibana. Enjoy a "satoyama lunch" made with seasonal ingredients harvested in the village, such as bamboo shoots in spring, tomatoes and bitter gourd in summer, or root veggies like taro and fruits such as mandarin oranges, kiwi, and strawberries in fall and winter.

Participants will also learn how to make konjac jelly, a typical Yame dish, using traditional methods. Come experience the richness that Yame’s rural villages have to offer in this program.
