To best enjoy Geibikei, a river boat can take you down the 2 kilometre gorge which has cliffs on either side soaring over 50 metres. The boat ride takes approximately 90 minutes. “Geibi” means “lion nose” and this can be found at the end of the gorge. Lucky stones can be purchased and you can try your luck at throwing it into the hole on the other side of the river. It is said that your wish will come true if you manage to throw it in. There are fishes in the river which you can feed from the boat as well. The boatman often sings a local folk song, “Geibi Oiwake” during the downstream journey. Geibikei can be visited any time of the year. During winter, a hot pot (nabe) dish can be enjoyed on the boat with a kotatsu, a low table which has a heater to keep warm.
