Hanamaki Onsen: Hotel Koyokan

the fascinating ‘Shishi-odori’ dance in Hotel Koyokan and hot spring hotels

Traditional folk-dance performance every Saturday night!

Hotel Koyokan is located in the quaint hot spring town of Hanamaki Onsen, a short 15 minute drive from Hanamaki Airport. Koyokan is part of a complex of three major hot spring hotels, including Hotel Senshukaku and Hotel Hanamaki, each with its own style and character. Guests are free to ‘onsen-hop’ between the baths of each of the hotels, with the women-only rose-petal bath a notable favourite! Aside from the relaxing hot springs and delicious local meals, Hotel Koyokan also offers a unique cultural experience for staying guests.

Every Saturday evening guests can enjoy a free traditional folk-dance performance in the 'Matsuri-hiroba' (festival square), located in the entrance hall of Hotel Koyokan. Local folk dancers perform the fascinating ‘Shishi-odori’ dance, a tradition found throughout Iwate Prefecture with the style, movements and costume of the dance varying between regions.
