Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter is largely divided into the Kurashiki Riverside and Honmachi/Higashimachi areas. Beautiful white walls and namako-kabe (black tiles that cover the walls) line the banks of the Kurashiki River, which is also home to cultural facilities such as museums. These include the first modern art museum in Japan, Ohara Museum of Art, which houses over 3,500 pieces of art. The architecture which is a distinctive feature of the museum, as well as the Japanese garden within the compounds, are also the main attractions of the museum.

Honmachi Street is located in a quiet and peaceful area away from the bustling Kurashiki River. It is lined with cafes and shops that have been renovated in a stylish manner while retaining the lattice doors and sugitama (ball made from sprigs of Japanese cedar) from the past.
Take a breather in the cafes that sell parfaits and desserts made using the local fruits of Okayama, and also enjoy the numerous souvenir shops that sell bags, accessories, and traditional handicrafts made using canvas that has the highest production level in Japan and masking tape that originated from Kurashiki.
