Tasting on the Saijo Brewery Tour

〜Get Tipsy on Sake〜

Saijo-machi in Higashihiroshima-shi, Hiroshima Prefecture is well-known as a sake-brewing district, with more than seven breweries on its charming streets within a single kilometre. You can view the sake brewing process, taste a variety of sakes, and purchase a few bottles even without making any prior reservations if the breweries are open. Remember to first check with the information centre in the station on the breweries where sake-tasting can be done before getting out to explore the area (the tourist information centre is closed on Mondays).

◆Sakagura-Dori – A place that completely satisfies those that love alcohol

The post town that has existed since the Edo period still remain today as “Sakagura-dori”, and you can enjoy sake-tasting at each brewery as you admire the red brick chimneys, and combination of white shikkui (a white paste covering the walls which is used as glue) and black namako-kabe (black tiles that cover the walls) while strolling through the charming street.

Take a break and rest in a restaurant or café that used to be a brewery when you get tired from the walking as you enjoy the original menu items and desserts that are made using sake. Make your day complete by purchasing the sake that you enjoy in each brewery and bringing some souvenirs back home from the tourist information centre.

◆Try not to get wasted as you enjoy plenty of delicious Sake!

The Sake Festival is held in Saijo in October every year, and has gathered more than 200,000 people that enjoy alcohol from both within and outside the country in recent years. There are also plenty of food and events that even children and those that do not drink can enjoy.
You can drink and compare more than 1,000 types of sake when you purchase a ticket for just 2,100 yen. Please make sure that you do not drink too much as you can also buy snacks that go well with alcohol during the event.
