Taste the first sake of the New Year at Otokoyama sake brewery in Kesennuma.
Otokoyama is creator of high-quality sake brands such as 'Soutenden' that have won contests at the international level. The local sakagura (sake brewery) has been favored by people for over 100 years, since its establishment in 1912. Although their shops were destroyed by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, fortunately the brewery survived and resume operations efficiently. You can hear about the brewer's passion for sake brewing and their hopes for recovery while touring the fermentation process and tasting different varieties of sake. You will gain new insights into the deep nuances of Japanese sake and how sake's characteristics change with the local climate.
