One of Japan’s biggest rose gardens with one million roses to sooth your heart and mind

The city of Kanoya in Kagoshima Prefecture’s Osumi Peninsula can be reached by public bus from Kagoshima Chuo Station in two hours and from Kagoshima Airport in 1 hour and 30 minutes. The hilly area in the east of Kanoya City’s Kirishimagaoka Park is home to “Kanoya Rose Garden”. With 35,000 roses planted across 80,000 square meters of land, it is one of the largest rose gardens in Japan. Visit it and sink in a sea of colors and aromas from the roses, allowing them to soothe and relax your mind. There is also a restaurant with its popular “Rose Curry” and “Rose Soft-serve Ice Cream”, and a gift shop offering rose-related goods and souvenirs.

The garden holds a “Kanoya Rose Festival” twice a year, in spring and autumn. Best times to visit are late April to early June in spring and mid-November to early December in autumn. On Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays during the festival periods, stage performances, exhibitions, and workshops take place.
