“Forest bathing” in the sea

Kayaking through the dense mangroves of the Kuroshio Forest Mangrove Park is one of the most popular activities on Amami Oshima Island. This subtropical island, sometimes called the "Galapagos of the East," is home to native birds such as the Ryukyu robin and Amami jay, and mammals like the Amami rabbit. Kayaking lets you soak in the atmosphere and observe endemic animals from the water.

When to go: All year
