A peaceful forest campsite on the shores of Lake Kussharo
Wakoto Campsite is located near the neck of the Wakoto Peninsula, which projects out into Lake Kussharo. The Wakoto Field House on the grounds serves as the campground reception and has information about Wakoto Peninsula's plants, animals and sights. It makes a good place to stop before heading out on a walk around the peninsula for maps and to see displays of local wildlife.
The campsite upgraded its facilities in 2014 and offers tent sites and a day-use camp area, as well as multi-purpose toilets, coin-operated showers and washing machines.
For outdoor exploration in the area, the Wakoto Peninsula nature trail, a 2.5-kilometer loop starting from the campsite, is an excellent place to start. Along the path, spot local birds and seasonal wildflowers. A four-minute walk from the Wakoto Field House is a free mixed-gender open-air bath (onsen) with views of the lake.
