A peaceful campsite on the Wakoto Peninsula
Wakoto Campsite is located at the neck of the Wakoto Peninsula, which projects out into Lake Kussharo. The Wakoto Field House on the grounds serves as the campground reception and has information about Wakoto Peninsula's plants, animals and sights. Stop at the field house before heading out on a walk around the peninsula for information and maps.
The campsite upgraded its facilities in 2014 and offers tent sites and a day-use camp area, as well as multi-purpose toilets, coin-operated showers and washing machines. A free mixed-gender open-air hot spring is located four minutes on foot from the Wakoto Field House. You can enjoy lovely views of the lake from the bath.
For outdoor exploration in the area, the Wakoto Peninsula Walking Trail is an excellent place to start. The 3.2-kilometer path begins at the campsite and loops around the peninsula. Along the way, spot local birds and seasonal wildflowers, and view Oyakotsu Jigoku, a spot where geothermal steam billows from cracks in the cliffs along the lakeshore.
