Take a quick hike around the rim of Mount Azuma-Kofuji before you explore Jododaira's high-altitide wetland, rich with flora and fauna.
Walk up the slope of the conical volcano, Mount Azuma-Kofuji, from the trailhead that starts from Jododaira parking lot. The climb up the wooden stairway will take you straight to the top of the volcano in 10 minutes. It takes about 40 minutes to circle the rim of Mount Azuma-Kofuji—you can see close-up views of the massive crater all along the way. From the crater's highest point, the peak of Mount Azuma-Kofuji, you can also take in unbroken views of Fukushima City and the surrounding mountains.
After descending from Mount Azuma-Kofuji, venture into Jododaira's lush wetlands. A wooden walkway snakes around the wetland and gives you a chance to observe a variety of sub-alpine plants and flowers. It is easily accessible from the Jododaira parking lot and the course can be walked in 15 minutes. A part of it is wheelchair-friendly.
