A base for discovering the mountainous Kamikochi highland valley
Learn about the flora, fauna, and trails of the remote, mountainous Kamikochi highland valley at the Kamokochi Information Center.
The main building features educational exhibits on the natural environment of Kamikochi throughout the seasons and a topographical diorama of mountains in the area, such as the Hotaka mountain range. There are touch panel devices where you can learn more about the natural history of Kamikochi and how to identify plants and animals you might see on the trails. The staff can also assist you with information on the trails in the area. The information center holds a rotation of photo exhibitions.
The information center also has amenities for hikers, such as benches where you can rest or eat, and a shower room that's available for a small fee. Other facilities nearby include a souvenir shop, a cafeteria, a post office, an area to store your luggage, and an office to help you book a stay at a resort hotel or mountain lodge.
