Everything you need to engage with nature in the mountainous Kamikochi highland valley
The Kamikochi Visitor Center helps guests engage with nature in the mountainous Kamikochi highland valley through exhibits, films, and lectures. True-to-size wood carvings of birds in flight and resting on tree branches are scattered around the high-ceilinged building. There are also many local tree specimens displayed along the perimeter of the main hall.
Staff at the guide counter provide the latest information on must-see spots for the season. They can advise you on weather conditions and the status of flowers in bloom or colorful fall foliage before you head out into the park. You can get a sense of the scale of the Kamikochi through a detailed picture of the mountain range viewed from 3,500 meters up in the air. The visitor center's displays feature collaborative pieces by photographers, travelers, and writers with the theme of "mountain spirit." The lecture hall shows films on local ecosystems and the natural beauty of the four seasons. Tablets are available in the library to look at the information on events being held at the center, as well as an array of illustrated books on wildlife and the natural history of Kamikochi.
There is also a gift shop selling souvenirs and a campsite nearby.
