Chubusangaku National Park

Kamikochi Visitor Center

Discover Kamikochi's plants, animals and alpine topography

Learn about the mountainous Kamikochi Highland Valley's natural environment through exhibits, films, and lectures at Kamikochi Visitor Center. True-to-size wood carvings of birds in flight and resting on tree branches are scattered around the high-ceilinged building. There are several local tree specimens displayed along the perimeter of the main hall.

Staff provide the latest information on must-see spots in each season. They can advise you on weather conditions and the status of flowers in bloom or the status of fall foliage before you head out into Chubusangaku National Park or climb one of the peaks of the Northern Japanese Alps.

You can get a sense of the scale of Kamikochi through a detailed picture of the mountain range. The visitor center's displays feature collaborative pieces by photographers, travelers, and writers with the theme of "mountain spirit." Watch films on local ecosystems and the natural beauty of the four seasons in the lecture hall.

Enjoy the array of illustrated books on wildlife and the natural history of Kamikochi and get informed about events by looking at the visitor center's calendar. There is also a gift shop and a campsite nearby.
