Guided Trek Along the Spectacular Coastline of Shimane

Parks Overview Parks Overview

Enjoy the scenery and history on guided treks around Hinomisaki

Choose from two trekking courses around the striking scenery of Hinomisaki, on the westernmost tip of the Shimane Peninsula. Choose a course to suit your own fitness level and interests.

The Mount Takao Course takes you to the summit of the mountain and covers the wartime history of the area, including a naval watchtower and barracks, remains of gun emplacements and a view of Hinomisaki Lighthouse. The first 30 minutes of the trail is fairly steep, but soon soon becomes wide and fairly level, making it an easy climb.

The Ketakake Peninsula Course takes trekkers along dramatic rocky outcrops, offering visitors an introduction to the Shimane Peninsula and Shinjiko Nakaumi Estuary Geopark. Although the elevation is not high, there are long sections of steps, so reasonable physical fitness and trekking experience is recommended.
