Ogamiyama-jinja Okumiya Shrine

Visit a sacred shrine and pray for safety in the mountains

Ogamiyama-jinja Okumiya Shrine is a holy site of worship nestled on the northern slope of Mount Daisen. Access to the shrine's inner sanctuary is from the main gate of Daisenji Temple along a beautiful 700-meter stone path. The approach is flanked by ancient beech and cedar trees, giving the area an ethereal atmosphere. Upon reaching the end of the stone path, climb up a long staircase to Ogamiyama-jinja Okumiya Shrine's inner sanctuary, a wooden building reconstructed in 1805.

During the Natsuyama Summer Festival, held the first weekend of June, you can see over 2,000 people carry flaming torches in a procession that starts at Ogamiyama-jinja Okumiya Shrine. The festival is held to pray for the safety of mountain climbers.
