Explore forests and beaches on the quiet shores of Lake Ashinoko
This walking trail takes you along the western shore of Lake Ashinoko. Stroll past the lake's floodgates and sandy beaches, enjoy views of Mount Komagatake looming over Hakone-jinja Shrine and observe plants, insects, and wild birds along tranquil forest paths.
Note that the trail has some steep sections.
Kojiri Floodgate
The trail takes you past two floodgates—Kojiri Floodgate and Fukara Floodgate—located 20 minutes apart. Fukara Floodgate was built 350 years ago, serving as the floodgate for an aqueduct that supplied water to Shizuoka's Fukara Village (present-day Susono City). Today, it controls the flow of water from Lake Ashinoko to Suruga Bay and is primarily used to generate power.
Tranquil forest trail
This trail winds through wooded areas flanked by cherry trees and maple trees, which are particularly beautiful during the spring and autumn seasons. On bright, clear days, you can enjoy views of Mount Komagatake's forest-clad slopes reflecting on the surface of Lake Ashinoko.
Mount Komagatake from Sanadahama Beach
The western shoreline of Lake Ashinoko has two natural sandy beaches: Sanadahama Beach, which marks the midpoint of the course, and Shirahama Beach, near the south side of the lake. These picture-perfect spots are a great place to take a break.
