Walk up to Takatsukiyama Observatory and enjoy spectacular views of the "Kerama Blue"
This walking trail begins at the Zamami Village Tourist Information Center and weaves uphill through subtropical forests and through Takatsukiyama Garden. At 131 meters above sea level, the observatory is one of the best places on Zamamijima Island to take in views of Agonoura Bay and the many islands that dot the sea, which has an intense hue affectionately named "Kerama Blue."

Takatsukiyama Observatory offers you scenic views of the white, sandy beaches and tropical green mountains encircling Agonoura Bay. The distinctive Kerama Blue hue of the sea becomes more apparent in contrast with the nearby islands.

A second observation deck on the way down from the summit offers a view of Furuzamami Beach, which the Michelin Green Guide awarded two stars. Humpback whales migrate to the waters around the Kerama Islands from late December and remain until early April. You may be able to spot them from the observation deck with the aid of binoculars during the whale watching season.

Continuing down the path from the second observation deck, you'll find a spot where all of Zamami Village is visible. From here, you can enjoy the sights of Zamami Port and the picturesque village.
