Get a glimpse of Tokashikijima's local culture and marine life
Learn more about Tokashikijima Island’s special relationship with nature at the Tokashiki Village Folk and History Heritage Museum. Marvel at the museum's exhibit of a complete baby humpback whale skeleton, over five meters in length, and one of very few that can be seen in Japan. It is suspended from the ceiling to help viewers appreciate the size of this amazing animal.
Also on display are traditional tools, historical artifacts and folk crafts. The museum is located on the second floor of the building that houses the Tokashiki Port Terminal. Please note that visiting this facility requires reservations, which can be made between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the port terminal reservation desk. The reservation desk is closed on weekends and national holidays.
