Learn about nature and history as you cycle an ancient forest road in Shinano
This cycling tour follows part of the route of the Hokkoku Kaido, a highway from the Edo period (1603–1867) which runs from Karuizawa to the Sea of Japan. Bicycle past Lake Nojiri, across the Kurohime Highland, and through ancient forests on a state-of-the-art bike.
An English-speaking local guide will explain the nature and history of Myoko-Togakushi renzan National Park and the way of life of people in the area. The tour includes cycling through picturesque landscapes, views of the Hokushin Gogaku (Five Mountains of Northern Shinshu), Naena Falls, an ancient elephant fossil discovery site, and historical artifacts from the Hokkoku Kaido.
