Learn how this beautiful area has inspired both writers and artists alike
Join this tour of the Shiobara Valley to appreciate the ever-changing beauty of its many waterfalls, marshlands and wild plants. The valley was a favorite among numerous Japanese literary figures, including author Ozaki Koyo and author and poet Yosano Akiko.
The walking path follows an 8.5-kilometer trail along the Shiobara River Valley, passing numerous waterfalls and suspension bridges, and is enjoyable any time of year. Spring and summer bring fresh greenery and colorful flowers, fall provides hues of orange and brown and everything in between, and winter sees the tranquil marshlands become blanketed with snow. After your hike, relax at Shiobara Onsenkyo hot spring resort, which features baths with varying mineral compositions in seven different colors.
