Spanning roughly 75 km from east to west, San'in Kaigan National Park, extends from Kyoto’s Amino Coast to the Tottori Sand Dunes. Mostly consisting of intricate ria coastline, it features a range of rock types from different geological eras and unique topography. It’s sometimes even called a “museum of coastal landforms.” The region also boasts the Tottori and Tango Sand Dunes, inviting visitors to enjoy a diverse range of landscapes through activities like hiking, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), and fat biking.

SUP on the cobalt-blue sea
Starting from Tajima Airport or JR Toyooka Station, you travel by car to Genbudo. Here you encounter the incredible beauty of Genbudo Cave and its amazing volcanic formations, including countless hexagonal basalt columns. After lunch, you head to Yuhigaura Beach and go SUPing on the beautiful cobalt-blue sea. You spend the night at Kinosaki Onsen, where people have been enjoying its flowing hot springs for over 1,300 years. Here you can visit the various public soto-yu baths scattered throughout this hot spring town with its quintessential Japanese atmosphere.
Take in a “museum of coastal landforms” from land and sea
After checking out, you travel to Kasumi while sightseeing along the coast with all it has to offer. The Kasumi Coast has been recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark. From both land and sea you can take in its diverse landscape, which gives it the nickname of the "museum of coastal landforms." Boarding the Kasumi Marine GEO TAXI, you tour the sea along the coast guided by a local fisherman who knows the area well. You then travel on to the Shirawara Coast by car, stopping for lunch along the way. From there, you walk the San'in Kaigan Geopark Trail to the Uradome Coast. As you hike with your Geo Guide, you learn about the formation of this terrain, which is rare globally. In the evening, you head to Tottori City where you spend the night.
Enjoy a range of activities at the Tottori Sand Dunes
The final day of the trip is at the Tottori Sand Dunes, the largest dunes in Japan. You head there from Tottori City after checking out. Apart from touring the Tottori Sand Dunes, you can choose from a number of activities. These include yoga, a fat bike tour, sandboarding on a board designed to slide on the dunes, and more. These activities will let you spend your day having one-of-a-kind experience. In the evening, you head to JR Tottori Station or Tottori Airport for your onward journey.
