Glimpse an Underwater World in Lake Shikotsu from a Clear-Bottom Kayak

Parks Overview Parks Overview

An unparalleled view under Lake Shikotsu's crystalline waters on a guided clear-bottom kayak tour

Lake Shikotsu is a deep volcanic lake is located in Shikotsu-Toya National Park. The lake stays free of ice year-round because of its depth, which means that you can enjoy kayaking even in cold winter weather. The kayak's clear bottom opens up an underwater world of fish like kokanee salmon, white-spotted chars, and dusky tripletooth gobies as you glide across the lake's calm surface. Kayaking allows you to explore the remote shores of the lake that are difficult to access on foot and the headwaters of the Chitose River. The experienced guides will teach you how to kayak, so even beginners can participate. At the end of the tour, participants receive a souvenir photo and a discount voucher for the local hot springs where you can rest and recharge.
