Beautiful mountain scenery in all seasons from the comfort of a cable car

Enjoy panoramic views of Towada-Hachimantai National Park while making an effortless ascent into the Hakkoda Mountains. The mountain range spans the northern part of the park and is composed of nearly 20 peaks.

Large cable cars provide unsurpassed views of the area’s ever-changing alpine flora. See colorful blooms of rare flowers during spring and summer, and enjoy a very different landscape as the leaves change colors in fall. The mountains are equally impressive in winter, covered in a white blanket of snow. The Hakkoda Ropeway provides access to excellent powder skiing during the winter season.

The rooftop viewing platform of the ropeway’s top station provides a 360-degree view of the surrounding mountains, forests, and marshland. On a clear day, visibility extends across the Tsugaru Strait from Aomori to Hokkaido. Light meals are on offer at either of the ropeway’s two restaurants, with one situated at the base station and the other at the summit. Check the Hakkoda Ropeway’s English homepage for live updates on the ropeway status. The ropeway is wheelchair-accessible.
