Stroll a village, learn from a local storyteller and spot endemic fruit bats

Tiny Kuchinoerabujima Island is home to about 100 residents. Tour a village for a taste of slow local life. During the tour, a storyteller will inform and entertain you with tales about the island. In the evening, spot northern Ryukyu fruit bats (Pteropus dasymallus dasymallus), also known as Erabu flying foxes.

Kuchinoerabujima Island is located about 12 kilometers northwest of Yakushima and can be accessed by a one-hour and forty-minute ferry ride.
