Recommended Fall Foliage Sights in Miyagi Prefecture

Courtesy of Sendai City's Official Tourism Association, some of the best places in Sendai and Miyagi to catch some spectacular fall scenery

The Zao Echo Line is the earliest place in Miyagi Prefecture to view the colorful leaves. Drive from the foot of Mt. Zao to the top of the #mountain and you’ll get to enjoy the whole range of #colorful foliage from green to yellow, orange, and red.

At Entsuin Temple in Matsushima, one of Japan’s three most scenic spots, the garden is full of trees with beautiful changing leaves. When illuminated at night, these leaves are reflected on the surface of the temple pond, creating a fantastic atmosphere.

Scenic Naruko Gorge is also a great spot for fall foliage, but be sure to time your visit to when the train is passing through. It’s quite a sight to see a train running through the gorge and entering the tunnel that is surrounded by colorful trees.

In central Sendai, we recommend Nishi Park, which is also a popular fall foliage photo spot.

Meanwhile, in the suburbs of Sendai, maple trees turn brilliant shades of color, and Kamo Shrine is a delightfully uncrowded place with an impressive red torii gate that stands out among the fall leaves.

We hope you will enjoy the fall leaves in Sendai and Miyagi this year!
