Numbered among the three greatest tides in the world, these whirlpools appear in the Naruto Strait, which runs between Awaji Island and Tokushima Prefecture in Shikoku. It is also famous for being the subject of a painting by the renowned Japanese ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Hiroshige. You can also take a boat and enjoy the powerful whirlpools up close.
