Paragliding in Yamagata

HOME > Japan’s Local Treasures > Paragliding in Yamagata

Enjoy the accessible, wheelchair-friendly activity and take in the amazing sight from 500 meters up in the air in Nanyo City

Yamagata Prefecture

Blessed with excellent weather conditions, Nanyo City, Yamagata Prefecture is an ideal location for paragliding. On sunny days you will see many paragliders soaring like birds; if you want to join them, Nanyo Sky Park is the place for you!

Wheelchair users can also fly in the sky using a specially designed paragliding wheelchair

Here, first-timers and the experienced alike can enjoy a refreshing time in the air all year round. While flying at 500 meters above the ground, you can admire spectacular views that showcase seasonal beauty. Tandem flights with a skilled pilot make the activity easy and comfortable for beginners. Wheelchair paragliding that uses a specially designed wheelchair is available too for people who need the gear.

The paraglider materials used in this facility are upcycled to turn into bags, pouches, and key chains, utilizing the fabric's strength, lightness, and designs. Get a piece as a memory of your experience to take home with you!

After a day of paragliding, head over for a hot soak in the Akayu Hot Spring, a hot spring with a history of more than 920 years, located just 10 minutes away by car. Additionally, Nanyo City, which has long been a production center of high-quality grapes, is home to six wineries that each create wines with a unique personality.

How to get there

From Tokyo Station, take the Yamagata Shinkansen to Akayu station (2 hours and 20 minutes), then 15 minutes by car.
