Enjoy the scents and sights of Inawashiro Herb Garden
Set against the backdrop of Lake Inawashiro located in Fukushima Prefecture’s Mt. Bandai, is the sprawling Inawashiro Herb Garden. Adjacent to Hotel Listel in Kawageta, the park cultivates about 400 kinds of seasonal herbs and flowers that bloom on different times of the year when the park is open from April to late November.
The outdoor garden boasts blooms of lavender, mint, chamomile, rapeseed, poppies, tulips, sunflowers, cosmos, and kochia, draping the landscape in a riot of colours ranging from yellow to red depending on the season. The flowers are sometimes celebrated with festivals, starting with Yukimi Sakura Festival in April to the Lavender Festival in June to the Sunflower Maze in late July. There is also an indoor greenhouse which is home to the park’s tropical plants like the bougainvillea.
Large wooden sculptures depicting the twelve signs of the Chinese zodiac can be spotted across the park, and there is a shop on site where you can find products and snacks made from various herbs and flowers.
