Mount Daisen

~The highest mountain in the Chugoku region~

One of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains and a symbol of Tottori Prefecture, Mount Daisen is a place where you can enjoy mountaineering as well as a wide range of other activities all year round.

◆The “Mount Fuji” of the Chugoku region

Not only is Mount Daisen the highest mountain in the Chugoku region at an impressive 1,709 meters, but it also looks remarkably similar to Mount Fuji when viewed from the west. It’s for this reason that it’s also known as Hoki Fuji. Hugely popular with mountaineers, the mountain offers two courses: The Summer Mountaineering Course for beginners and the Utopia Course for advanced climbers. From early October to early November, the forest at the foot of the mountain comes alive with shades of red, orange and yellow. Hiking while surrounded by the colourful autumn leaves is truly a breath-taking experience.

◆Lots of activities to try

As well as mountaineering, there’s a whole host of other activities on offer for people of all ages. These include cycling, obstacle courses, horse-riding and blueberry and apple picking. After working up a sweat, fill your belly with the sumptuous local delicacies on offer. Treat yourself to soft serve ice cream made from the milk of the cows that graze at the foot of Mount Daisen, or sample Tottori’s succulent Olein 55 beef rich in oleic acid.
