As the winter season approaches Aomori, blankets of snow cover Hakkoda Mountain and the fir trees that are scattered across the area, creating a stunning snowscape. The trees collect thick layers of snow and ice forming odd shapes known as “snow monsters”. Once onboard the Hakkoda Ropeway, unobstructed views of the snow monsters can be enjoyed. The powder snow also attracts many snow adrenaline enthusiasts within Japan and abroad. Best time to visit: January to February
