Highlights

  • This is scenic coastal route is well designed for cyclists. You can find distance markers, navigation lines to mark the course, and information boards displaying the entire course along the way. Take time to enjoy cycle-friendly cafes and rest areas along the route. The "Ainokaze Cycle Train," offers easy access to the route, allowing riders to take their bikes on the train (reservations required).

  • Along the coastal route at Amaharashi Beach, the dramatic sight of Toyama Bay framed by the towering Tateyama mountain range has inspired artists and poets for centuries. In summer, the cool sea breeze makes for ideal cycling conditions. There is little shade along the route, so sun protection and extra hydration are essential. Winter is the best time to see the snowy Tateyama mountains beyond the sea, but the weather can be unpredictable, so be sure to bring proper weather gear.

  • The Toyama coast has a thriving fishing industry, and trying local fresh seafood is a must. The city of Himi on the west side of Toyama Bay is one of the starting points of the coastal course and has been recognized nationally for its sustainable fishing practices. Take some time to visit the many sightseeing spots around the course, including the rugged Kurobe Gorge, Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, Takaoka Old Castle Park, Tonami Tulip Park, and Oiwasan Nissekiji Temple.


The Toyama Bay Cycling Route is Enjoy sweeping seaside views in Toyama Prefecture along this 102-kilometer-long National Cycling Route. The idyllic bayside scenery stretches to the towering snow-capped peaks of the Tateyama mountain range in the distance. The Toyama Bay Cycling Route cruises past pristine beaches, tranquil forests, and quaint villages, allowing cyclists to soak in Toyama's culture, history, and nature. It also has an abundance of cycle stations and cafes, which means you’re never far from your next pit stop when you need to rest or service your bicycle. This course also connects to the 199-kilometer-long Toyama Countryside Route, an extensive addition for anyone wanting to explore the scenery and culture of Toyama’s countryside.

Access

 

The easiest way to access the Toyama Bay Cycling Route is via JR Toyama Station. To JR Toyama Station, take the Shinkansen from JR Tokyo Station. The ride takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
