Yoshino-Kumano National Park

Ugui Visitor Center

An introduction to the landscape, wildlife, and fishing culture of the Ugui Peninsula

The Ugui Visitor Center provides information on the natural environment, culture, and history of the Ugui Peninsula and Yoshino-Kumano National Park.

The visitor center's exhibits include panels on local geology and terrain, with displays divided by the different ecosystems found in the area. There are models and taxidermy mounts of wildlife that can be found in the Ugui Peninsula's forest, coastline and ocean ecosystems. There is a display of flora, fauna and insect specimens that have been found by visitors to the park, and an exhibit on large fishing nets—a symbol of prosperity in Ugui—with various types of nets used throughout history.

The visitor center hosts various activities, including nature observation walks to see seasonal phenomena like bioluminescent mushrooms. There are seasonal photography exhibitions and other events like sweet potato harvesting and natural dyeing workshops. The facility strives to be environmentally friendly in its operation and uses solar panels, natural light, and rainwater recycling.
