Near the end of the year, Osaka welcomes visitors into a wonderful world of light and color. One of Japan's most famous illumination events, the Festival of the Lights is comprised of two core programs that beautifully illuminate Midosuji Avenue and Nakanoshima area.

Midosuji Avenue is an iconic street located in the heart of Osaka City. The section of the street that runs from Umeda through to Namba lights up in a beautiful array of colorful illuminations, creating a 4km display that envelops visitors in its warm and gentle light. The event was even recognized by the Guinness World Records in January 2015 for the “most illuminated trees on a single street.”

Home to a number of buildings that have been designated as Important Cultural Properties, including the Central Public Hall and Nakanoshima Library, Nakanoshima is a place from which a great deal of the city's art and cultural output originates. Every year, Nakanoshima Park, one of the most iconic landmarks of Osaka's waterways, plays host to a one-of-a-kind program of dazzling illuminations, enthralling visitors with its dynamic show of light. The area is completely walkable, making it the ideal location for a winter date or outing.

In addition, a series of gorgeous illumination programs bathe the various regions of Osaka prefecture in stunning color, each drawing inspiration from the unique charms of their respective localities.
