A striking collaboration between cherry blossoms and the ruins of Sakura Castle

At Sakura Castle Park, where more than 1,000 cherry blossoms of about 50 varieties beautifully bloom every spring, you can enjoy a breathtaking collaboration between the castle ruins and the cherry blossoms.
Built in the early Edo period (1603–1867), Sakura Castle is the only castle in Chiba Prefecture that has been selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Castles.
Toshikatsu Doi, who became the feudal lord of the Sakura Domain at the command of Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa in 1610, built the castle in the 7 years from 1611 to 1617. Parts of the old castle can still be seen today, including the ruins of the castle tower and a dry moat.
How to get there
From Narita Airport, take the Keisei Line to Keisei-Sakura Station (25 minutes). The park is about 20 minutes on foot from Keisei-Sakura Station. Alternatively, take the Chiba Green Bus bound for Tamachi Shako from the South Exit of Keisei-Sakura Station, get off at either the National Museum Entrance stop or the National Museum of Japanese History stop, and walk 5 minutes.
